Abstract

Thai society perceives the older generations and their elderly as ‘protectors’ whom should be treated with a great respect. Contextually, these elderly symbolise a spiritual anchor for a family’s lineages and the community. Thus, it is important that they are equipped with mental stability in the time of changes, especially when these changes are occurring so rapidly in today’s society. Such preparation could help foster them immunity, develop self-esteem and self-confidence as well as rebuilding a sense of hope in life. From the study, it is advised that families should treat their elderly with care, whether it is verbally or non-verbally. Additionally, elderly should be supported and encouraged to attend activities of their interest. It is believed that once mental stability is promoted, these people would be better prepared to overcome difficulties and challenges they face later in life.
