Abstract

Every enterprise has a unique requirement of what presumed to be a desirable characteristic of an employee. Therefore, the objective of this research was to investigate a set of desirable characteristics in employees, varied by each enterprise’s preferences. In this situation, questionnaires were collected from Business English fourth year students in Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. As of 2017, these students were allocated for internships at 57 companies operating under four major categories of enterprises comprised of governmental units, private companies, an aviation industry, and a hotel industry. The results found these ‘desirable characteristics’ can be characterised and approached from 5 perspectives as follow: 1) ‘moral and ethic’ is perceived as the most crucial aspect in aviation and hotel industry; 2) in terms of ‘knowledge’, public and private companies placed highest importance in process and methodology while aviation and hotel industry focus on an on-job internship knowledge; 3) all four categories of enterprises agreed that prioritisation skill is the most crucial intellectual skill; 4) public and private organisations both placed highest importance in ‘friendliness and adaptation’; and 5) all four categories of enterprises agreed that information technology skills are the most important skills needed.
